About Me

Former American Football wide receiver with professional experience in a wide range of public and commercial settings, as well as fundraising venues, along with a deep interest in the welfare of children and youth and particularly those who are at risk. Both business and community service have been a consistent emphasis in his career and remain a top priority.

Roy Lee Jefferson was born November 9, 1943 in Texarkana, Texas. Roy is a former American Football wide receiver who played twelve seasons in the National Football League. During his 162 regular season games he had 451 receptions for 7539 yards and 52 touchdowns, averaging 16.7 yards per catch. Drafted out of the University of Utah where he was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year in his senior year, he spent 5 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1965 -1969). In 1968 he led the NFL in receiving yards with 1074. In 1968 and 1969 he was named 1st Team All Pro in the AP and UPI polls. Roy finished the 1969 season with 67 receptions for1079 yards and 9 touchdowns, thus becoming the first Steelers receiver to post two back-to-back 1000 yard seasons.

Roy was traded to the Baltimore Colts before the 1970 season. He was with the Colts for one season and helped them win Super Bowl V. He finished the regular season with 44 receptions for 749 yards and 7 touchdowns, and had three receptions for 52 yards in the Colts 16 -13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

Roy was traded to the Washington Redskins in 1971. He spent 6 seasons with the Redskins, helping them reach Super Bowl VII in 1972, before retiring after the 1976 season. Jefferson was named to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends Team in 2007 as one of the 24 best Steelers players prior to 1970. Roy was inducted into the University of Utah Hall of Fame.
